The energy is Brazil is palpable. It touches all of your senses. The colors are bright, the humidity is thick, and the loud speaker from the carros-som (cars that drive around with a loudspeaker blasting music & advertisements into the neighborhoods) are unconscionably loud.

Marrying into a Brazilian family has afforded me a second home in the country, specifically the state of Espírito Santo on the coast. Despite being a world away from my actual home, the through lines of life remain a constant. The coffee is on, fresh coconuts are being delivered, and the beach is humming early with runners, swimmers, and jogodores de frescobol.

As a noticeable gringo, walking around with a camera carries with it a bit of risk. In keeping a low profile, I try to take a bit of Brazil home with me after each trip.
