I first moved to San Francisco at 17 years old, never having spent much time in the City. I had picked up photography in high school with an old Nikon FE my dad had laying around, and decided that I would be pursuing Photojournalism in college. Falling in love with Ocean Beach was a gradual process, born of the necessity of surfing the same stretch day after day. The beach became a natural backdrop to many of my photographs — spending all day surfing doesn’t lend itself to shooting much else — and it became much more than that. My passion for storytelling and documentary photography was channeled through the Outer Sunset and Ocean Beach areas, a relationship that has lasted nearly 15 years and counting.
